The Port City Bar Association (PCBA) has partnered with Ben Payne and Savannah Classical Academy (SCA) to launch a new mentorship initiative called “Best Foot Forward” (B.F.F). The program is for 8th grade girls enrolled at Savannah Classical Academy (SCA). Falen Cox, a member of The Port City Bar Association, coordinated the initiative with the intent to create a positive environment where girls would have the opportunity to reflect, talk freely, and empower one another. Cox, along with several women lawyers, discuss issues facing young ladies while incorporating SCA core virtues of compassion, courage, diligence, integrity, perseverance, respect, responsibility, and temperance.

“This program allows the girls to slow down for just a little bit to reflect about the things going on in their world. It also allows them the forum to see for themselves, by talking to us and talking to each other, how practicing SCAs virtues can help them to cope with the stresses that come with being a young girl in this day and age—a day and age where women still earn less than men for performing the same work,” says Falen Cox, program participant and PCBA secretary. Along with Ms. Cox, dynamic women lawyers Kimberley Price, Felicia Spears, Denise Cooper, Letta Snead, and Latana Anthony work closely with young students to ensure they put their “Best Foot Forward.”

The Port City Bar Association is comprised primarily of minority attorneys who live and practice in the greater Savannah Area. Savannah Classical Academy is a charter school, founded in 2013, that provides its students with a classical, and academically rigorous education.
